Special Session of Florida Legislature

Opinions on everything, from everyone, on every part of the ad valorem tax scheme are being floated. In reality, we think it's important to fund govenrment, but that elected officials have an obligation to protect taxpayers from run-away budgets. Such protection is not evident in many venues, leading to one source of taxpayer concerns.

The cap on homestead assessments is the other concern, but the tremendous differences between market values and assessed values may not continue as the bubble appears to have burst - in part because it's so difficult to get insurance in the coastal areas where the great run-ups occurred. Settling down to more normal sales volumes, and less inflated prices, may eliminate much of the assumed problems related to the cap.

So, that brings us back to what is government doing with the money it already gets?
